Grand Theft Auto 6 is delayed again: the wait is extended to November 2026

The highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6 has been delayed again. Take-Two Interactive announced that the arrival of the hit title has been postponed for another six months, meaning its release is now scheduled for November 26, 2026.
This decision, revealed in the company’s most recent earnings report, aims to give the Rockstar Games team the necessary time to polish the final product and meet the high expectations of the players.
Reasons behind the postponement of GTA 6
Take-Two Interactive explained that the delay gives the development team the opportunity to “finish the game to the high level of quality that players expect and deserve.” Confidence in Rockstar Games remains intact, as the studio has the publisher’s “full support.”
In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick avoided confirming that this would be the last delay, although he stated: “confidence in the date, that’s why we set it .”
The decision aligns with the industry practice of prioritizing excellence in major releases over timelines, even when it involves extending the development cycle.
The title, originally announced in December 2023 to be released in 2025, had already been delayed once: in May, the release was moved to May 26, 2026.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told IGN at the time that “historically, when we set a specific date, we’ve generally been very good at meeting it.” This latest delay means that, if the date is met, Grand Theft Auto 6 will arrive on the market 13 years after the last title in the series, released in 2013.

Impact on the industry and the launch landscape in the fourth quarter
The rescheduling of GTA 6’s release affects not only players and the Rockstar team, but the entire video game industry . Other publishers and developers who had plans to release major titles will, as on previous occasions, avoid coinciding with one of the industry’s biggest launches.
The new schedule moves the launch to a particularly competitive fourth quarter, reshaping the timelines of other major projects that will seek to avoid direct competition with what promises to be one of the digital entertainment events of the decade.
The gaming community and analysts will continue to eagerly await the new release date, considering the historical and commercial significance of the Grand Theft Auto franchise and Rockstar Games’ reputation for delivering high-quality experiences.
